She has regained consciousness and she is trying to handle not only what happened to her but how to protect herself from the person who tried to kill her.
Duff was protecting Jane when Lily got shot and he has been dealing with the guilt and grief for the last year. One she regains consciousness all he wants to do is protect her and keep her safe so that they can find out who is behind it.
