The public persona of Pearson as a successful divorce attorney is much different than the reality. A shoulder injury has led to a downward spiral resulting in an alcohol and drug addiction. He has now hit rock bottom and wakes up in a hospital needing to attend rehab to handle his addiction.
Rose is one of the counsellors at Flower Power, the rehab facility he is attending. He is the last person that she would choose to help as he was the person responsible in ensuring that her ex received full custody of their daughter and now she only gets to see her every last weekend and even that is proving difficult.
