I’m in the bathroom applying one last coat of mascara to my eyelashes when Carter suddenly appears behind me, his gorgeous face looming over my shoulder. Of course, like the dork that I am, I yelp with a jolt when I first spot him, stabbing myself in the eyeball with the mascara wand.

And like some sort of romcom hero, he rushes for me, his big hands curling around my shoulders and turning me around so I have no choice but to face him. Though I can’t even look at him, considering I’m bent over and holding both hands over my wounded eye.

“Are you all right? I didn’t mean to scare you.” He sounds troubled. Which is good. He should definitely feel bad for causing my injury.

Though really, I’m the one who overreacted and stabbed myself in the first place.

“I’m okay.” I stand up straighter, still cradling my watery, stinging eye. “It only hurts a little.”

“Drop your hand.” He turns away from me, snagging a tissue out of the Kleenex box that’s perched on the back of the toilet, then faces me once more. “Drop it,” he repeats when I still haven’t removed my hand.

Reluctantly I remove my hand from my face, my eyelashes practically stuck together. I’m sure I look a mess and I swallow hard, reaching up to dab at the tender skin beneath my eye, but Carter bats my hand away.

“Let me,” he murmurs as he brushes the tissue underneath my eye, picking up all the excess mascara. “Does it still hurt?”

“A little.” He’s so close. I can see all of his eyelashes, and they’re thick and dark and don’t need a lick of mascara on them, the jerk. He’s freshly shaven, his face nice and smooth, and I sort of want to rub against it. Like a cat.

“I’m sorry I startled you,” he says with the utmost sincerity. “I didn’t mean for you to try to take your eye out.”

A soft laugh escapes me. “I’ve stabbed myself in the eye before with a mascara wand. I’m sure this won’t be the last time.”

He finishes cleaning up the mess I made and then turns me so I face the mirror once more. “Now you’re perfect,” he says, squeezing my shoulders for the briefest moment before he lets go and exits the bathroom, heading straight into his bedroom.

I’m shaken by the encounter and it takes me a minute to get moving again. Since the afternoon at my nonna’s house, we’ve been friendlier. Not so friendly that we fall into bed together, but friendly enough. Which is…nice. I don’t like having hostile feelings toward Carter. What exactly did he ever do to me anyway?

Oh, he just rocked your world and turned you into a firm believer in multiple orgasms, then left you in the dust and never talked to you again.

Right. He did that. And it sucked.

When Caroline, her recently engaged best friend and roommate, wants to move in with her fiancé she suggests that her brother move in. That would have been a great idea if they hadn’t spent one steamy night together and not talked to each other since.

Carter is at a crossroads in his life as he has forged a successful career in real estate but hasn’t been lucky in love. He has moved back to his hometown to be close to his sister but moving in with the woman who inspired feelings he wasn’t comfortable with sounds like a disaster in the making.

Stella and Carter both believe that they aren’t destined for relationships and both are trying to pretend the night they spent together meant nothing when the opposite is true. This is a sweet and sexy story about love and family which includes a great cast of secondary characters.

Averly is a woman who is focused and once she has a plan, deviations will not be tolerated.    She has the perfect place to convert into her dream Bed & Breakfast and she has hired the perfect contractor however they can’t seem to have a conversation without it turning into a battle.

There is no questioning  Eli’s abilities when it comes to work but have a client like Averly is proving to be quite the challenge.    She believes that she knows what is best so while a part of him admires her tenacity the other part finds  her infuriating.

They are like oil and water but once they put aside their differences they couldn’t have been a better match and they balance each other to perfection.

I was so lost in that marvel of architecture that I was caught off guard when Josh brought his hand up to my cheek and his fingers lightly guided my face to look at him.

When I did, I saw only seriousness in his eyes as he gazed back at me, different from the way he’d ever looked at me hundreds of times before. Then he lowered his lips to mine, tentatively at first like he wasn’t sure if I’d stop him.

I wasn’t sure either, but instead of mulling every angle and implication, I gave in to the moment, enjoying the newness of his lips, their contour and taste. I shifted to face him a little more squarely and reached to wrap my hand around the back of his neck. His lips were soft, and the only thing I knew for sure was that I wasn’t backing away.

Good lord. It felt too good.

Long overdue. And surprisingly hot.

He pulled me a little closer, and his tongue gently parted my lips and slid inside, grazing mine before circling and swishing and drawing me further in. I felt myself respond automatically, wanting to feel more of him, wanting to be carried away by him.

He drew back and tracked the outline of my lips with his finger. Every touch had a ripple effect.

He kissed me lightly before backing away to look at my face. Waiting for my reaction. It was all I could do at that point—react. Go with it.

I could feel the bubbling questions in my brain about whether I was making a mistake. The only way to quiet them was to press my lips against his and feel the fire ignite in every part of me. No, the first time wasn’t a fluke. Everything fell aside the second Josh’s lips connected with mine. His hand was so gentle, his fingertips brushing the side of my face and tangling in my hair. I felt chills down to my toes at his touch and I lost all track of where we were.

No one noticed us—their eyes were focused upward on the bright lights and magnificent soaring structure and the videos they were capturing on their phones—but it wouldn’t have mattered if they had. The only thing that mattered was him.

Josh pulled back, his eyes searching my face to see what I was thinking. I could barely control my racing heart, let alone say a word, so I folded myself closer into him, putting my head on his shoulder and wrapping my arm more tightly around him. “I guess I picked the cheesiest moment to kiss you,” he said finally, which made me laugh. Hannah is been best friends with Josh as they supported each other through their medical training. Although he is very attractive, she never saw him as more than a friend in large part due to the fact that she only had eyes for his roommate Maddox.

After she finishes school and before she starts her career, she and Maddox make plans to meet in Paris but when Josh was there and Maddox wasn’t, she finally realizes which man she belongs with. As she and Josh spend time together in the most romantic city love is in the air and will these two friends realize they make much better lovers?

I enjoyed the debut story from this author, and I did like the evolution of Hannah’s character over the course of the story.
