The traumatic situation that Emmy has endured is bad enough but to not only have no support from those that should have been there for her but to be bullied and ostracized for speaking out only made it that much more intolerable. All she wants to do is escape her hometown and the people in it and start over at college only to have it follow her in the worst possible way.
Sterling is the loyal best friend of the man who hurt Emmy so deeply and he is determined to ensure that she feels the same pain as his best friend does. He has the perfect plan to make her suffer but developing feelings for her was a complication he didn’t want especially since it has him doubting what is fact and what is fiction.
Emmy is so much stronger and resilient than even she knows and she has found not only a home but a family at college. You can’t help but dislike Sterling in the beginning but his transformation from the man against her to the man who gives her exactly what she needs was wonderful to watch as he fights for her and their relationship.
