If life was fair Peyton was at a time in her life when she should be focused on friends, dating and school but that is not the case. Filled with guilt and regrets for circumstances that were not only not her fault but beyond her control. She is floundering but determined not to burden those she cares about with what is really going on until Xander comes into her life when she needs someone the most.
Xander is on a downward spiral as he feels more a spectator when it comes to life than a participant. He is mired in pain and feels unworthy but when he sees Peyton at one of the lowest points in her life he senses a kindred soul. They are wrong for each other on so many levels and he knows that the best way to protect her is by staying away but it complicated by the fact that the only time they feel any respite from the demons that haunt them is when they are together.
Peyton and Xander take us on emotional journey as despite the difference between them they find themselves in a similar mindset but seeing them open their hearts and help each other heal from the past was wonderful to see.
