When my grandfather died, I had no choice but to go back home.
The plan was just for two weeks.
I thought it would be quick and easy, until he was standing at the back door asking questions.
Secrets never stay secrets for long in this town.
After serving his country for six years an injury has placed Reed on the sideline, so he returns to his hometown to spend some time with his family and catch up with old friends. Hazel was one of those friends, but she has a surprise of her own when he finds out that the one night they spent together resulted in Sofia, his precious daughter.
Hazel knew that she and Reed would only have one night together as he was headed for the military, and she had plans to attend college. Life had other plans for her, but she doesn’t regret anything as her daughter is her world. When a tragic loss brings her back to her hometown it must have been destiny that had Reed there at the same time and now they must deal with the decisions they both made.
This is a heartwarming and emotional story as Hazel and Reed try to adjust to the changes this brings to both their lives. They handled it with maturity, understanding and always put their daughter first as they realize that what they have been missing in their lives is each other.
When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
