Holden has a difficult past which has only made him more protective when it comes to his teammates and those he cares about, but he prefers to keep the painful parts to himself. From the first time that he meets Julep, his new coach’s daughter, he is warned to stay away but even though he knows it would be in his best interest to follow this edict he senses she is a kindred spirit.
Julep has been through so much and hopes that attending college where her father works and working for the team is the new beginning she desperately needs. The one thing she doesn’t need is to get involved with one of her father’s players, but he also seems to be the one person who truly understands her and is always there when she needs someone the most.
The romance between Holden and Julep was swoony but it was the emotional connection they shared that made their relationship so special. Both have been hurt by what life has thrown at them and Holden shows her that life is meant for living and what they share is strong enough to overcome anything life throws at them.
