Egan has distanced himself from his dark past first with Hidden Justice and now as a successful businessman. He has had feelings for Sophia for a while and has been showing her with his thoughtful actions what she means to him. Just when he convinces her to let him be more than her friend his past resurfaces with a vengeance which places everyone he cares about in danger.
Sophia has loved and lost so she is cautious about letting anyone too close. She is focused on her demanding career as a doctor, but Egan makes it difficult to distance herself with the way that he is always there for her. When his past places them both in danger she isn’t about to walk away as she now knows that she can trust him with her heart and her life.
Egan is swoony as Sophia is his whole world and he is so protective and caring while Sophia may have taken some time to allow her in his life but once he was there, she was determined to be by his side despite the threats they were facing. The other characters we know and love were also there to support Egan and Sophie and the epilogue allows us to catch up with everyone and see the wonderful lives they have built.
