Excerpt:
We’re both breathing too hard for a seven-foot jog across the hall, so I decide to push him over to the less messy side of feelings by puckering my mouth into a barely contained laugh. He gives in completely, a raspy rumble escaping his chest as he shakes his head and moves across his room. I sit on the end of his bed, on the quilt he let me borrow the first night we met, while he pulls open the top drawer of his dresser.
“Who made this for you?” I ask, my hand running over the small threads that poke up like pieces of soft spring grass.
He glances over his shoulder and smiles.
“It was my nana’s. She babysat me a lot when I was little, and that quilt was like the magic nap maker. I mean, I crawled under that sucker and was just out, no matter how hard I would fight it,” he says.
He pulls some clothes into his hands and turns to face me, pushing the drawer closed with his hip.
“Here. I’m sure you’re used to wearing Monsoon gear,” he chuckles, holding out a familiar navy blue T-shirt and a pair of gray sweats.
I take the folded clothes into my hand and rest them on my lap to inspect.
“I’m pretty sure I own this exact shirt. Thanks,” I say, smiling as I glance up at him. His gaze quickly flicks up from my chest to meet my eyes, and I pull my towel a little tighter against my body, covering that hand with the one clutching the T-shirt and suddenly very aware that he was looking at my cleavage. I look down to check it out for myself, pulling the shirt away from my chest to get a handle on his view. Not bad. They’re ample looking today.
“Yeah, uh. I’ll just be in the shower,” he says, his hand grabbing at the back of his neck as his eyes dart around me and his room nervously.
“Relax. It’s my fault for being in a towel,” I say in an attempt to defuse the situation.
“Ha, uh . . . yeah. I’ll just . . .” Jensen points over his shoulder and trips over his feet while backing into his door.
I pull my lips into a tight smile and will away the burning sensation in my cheeks. I wave the shirt and hand at him.
“Off you go,” I encourage.
He leaves me with one more wide-eyed expression tinged with that I-might-throw-up nervous edge. Once the door closes behind him, I fall flat on my back, onto nana’s quilt. I pull one side over my body, covering my face, and groan.
My brother is actually right. He’s soooooo right. This is a bad idea.
