Deacon is used to being judged both when it comes to his family and his past, so he tries to isolate himself from others. That isn’t working well when it comes to Phoebe as she is not deterred by his attempts to distance himself from her. He had feelings for her as a teenager, but he is no longer that boy and the man in him knows that the best way he can show how he cares is by not allowing her close.
Phoebe’s upbringing and personality couldn’t be more different as she has always been loved which has turned into the confident and caring woman she is. She has had feelings for Deacon since she was a teenager, and she is determined to show him kindness especially when he is there for her when she needs someone the most and gives her a glimpse of the man she has always believed him to be.
Your heart will break for what has shaped Deacon into the man he is and will only have you more invested in having him find the happiness he deserves with Phoebe. The characters are captivating, the romance is enchanting, and the intrigue only makes their relationship stronger.
