Maren’s life isn’t unfolding the way she had expected as not only is her marriage and plans for the future in jeopardy but the best way to describe her family is complicated. Helping her stepbrother, Charlie, renovate an older home will give her the distance to deal with what she really wants and her feelings for Charlie which she has tried to deny.
Charlie is going through a difficult time of his own as he ponders what he could have done differently and doesn’t always deal with his pain in the best way. He isn’t sure he can emotionally take on the renovation on his own but when Maren offers to help he agrees in part because he wants to see it through and in part because of the feelings he has always had for Maren.
Both Maren and Charlie are at a crossroads in their life which amps up the emotion of their story especially when you factor in the feelings they have always had for each other. They give each other strength to face their demons and find the love and life they have always wanted.
