Everything that Chloe has been through has only made her stronger and more resilient and she refuses to let it define her. Tyler is a firefighter who has seen the destructive outcome when love doesn’t end well, and it is something he doesn’t want to experience. He may be attracted to Chloe but knowing she would want something beyond the casual and that she is his best friend’s sister becomes a line he isn’t willing to cross. That becomes more difficult when they find themselves spending time together especially when he knows he will do anything to keep her safe.
