Brew is still feelings the guilt and regret of the death of his ex which has left him not only needing to ensure the person responsible is held accountable but not wanting to let another woman close. He may be attracted to Erica, but he believes the best thing he can do to protect her is to keep his distance however she isn’t deterred by his cold and callous demeanor.

Erica has overcome so much to ensure the safety of her and her daughter Olive and her strength and resilience is unquestionable. Rather than cowering from Brew’s actions her feisty side comes out and she gives as good as she gets and she manages to breach his defenses whether he wants it or not.
