“This isn’t some new competition for you to prove you’re better at something else, is it? I am well aware you’re better at baseball.”
Leaning down, hovering his lips over my ear as he gently slipped a bat into my grasp, he teased, “Maybe I just want to see you handling my big, long stick.”
I tried to assure Owen that I was more than content watching him coach for the afternoon, but he wasn’t hearing any of it. Stepping behind me, he pressed his hips against my backside as he adjusted my grip around the bat and then directed me on my stance. I felt ridiculous as I stood there in the grass, watching Owen walk away while he grabbed a ball from his cargo shorts.
“Just try to hit it, okay?” he called out as he positioned himself across from me.
Nodding, I narrowed my stare, hoping it would help me focus. Owen threw the ball much slower than I’d seen in person or on TV. I forced my eyes to stay open, fighting every intuition to close them. Even though I had no idea what I was doing, the ball made contact with my bat with just enough force to bounce it back toward Owen.
“I did it!”
“Great job, baby!” he exclaimed as he collected the ball. “Let’s see if we can get one more.” He called over one of the older kids to pitch, while Owen came and stood behind me again. The ridge of his cock was pressed against my ass again, and I could barely concentrate.
“You’re going to make me miss it with you standing behind me like this,” I told him.
“Naw. We got it.”
Owen adjusted his grip on the bat around my hands. The moment our hands touched, I felt… powerful. Like I could actually get a grand slam.
“You’re controlling it. I’m just the added muscle.”
The pitcher wound and then released the ball. Taking a deep breath, I swung the bat with every ounce of strength I had. Not expecting to hit anything, the thunk of the bat hitting the ball startled me. A flash of white soared through the sky, landing on the other side of the park.
“Oh my gosh! We did it!” “You did it. I just gave you a little extra strength.”
My sister was his first choice. Too bad for him, I refused to be his second.
Dante Leone was bad news with a gorgeous exterior and a dangerous mind. Emotionally unavailable and slightly unhinged, he was a heartbreak waiting to happen. Again.
I ran. He gave chase and my fate was sealed.
Roaming the world, I searched for a vital part of me. There’d be no new beginning until I found my answers. My taste of freedom was sweet, yet lonely. And oh, so fleeting.
I should have known he would catch up to me. After all, he thrived on the chase. I’d learned that the hard way.
But guess what?
I was no longer the woman he seduced all those years ago. I no longer believed the pretty lies that passed his lips nor the false promises in his deceitful eyes.
My name is Phoenix Romero, and I’d make the rules this time around.
Like my namesake, I had risen from the ashes and this time, I would be the one to make him burn.
A dark, contemporary, billionaire romance featuring anti-hero, secret society and close proximity tropes from USA Today Bestselling duo P. Rayne.
I spend my nights slinging drinks at Black Magic Bar or taking my clothes off at the local strip club. After my father passed, my stepmother gave me no other choice.
But when I break free of the chains binding me to my family estate, I find myself with nowhere to go. Until Nero Voss, the youngest of the billionaire Voss brothers, offers me a room at Midnight Manor. Now, I’m under his watchful gaze and enjoying it more than I should.
I shouldn’t give in to temptation, he is my stepsister’s ex-fiancé after all, but the pull toward him grows stronger by the day. I fight, but I’m losing the battle.
Nero is keeping secrets, though.
What he doesn’t know is that I’m keeping secrets, too.

💙Review💙 Nero thought that he had found love and the woman he was going to spend his life with only to have it all come crashing down. To overcome the betrayal, he finds himself at an adult club where he is enchanted by Cinder, one of the dancers. He knows she is meant to be his so he offers her a place to stay to get close to her but there is something about her that he doesn’t know.
Cinder’s life is not her own as she finds herself in a working situation, she doesn’t want not by choice but to satisfy the demands of her stepmother and stepsisters. She has feelings for Nero from her first meeting with him especially when he gives her another option to the way she has been living her life. The only problem is that they are connected in a way that could destroy what they have been trying to build.
Nero is an intriguing mix between demanding and protective while Cinder has a strength, she didn’t know she had while she was under her family’s control. A little intrigue, some suspense and a love that was too strong to be denied.

Hometown hockey hero, Blake has life completely figured out. He’s footloose and fancy free with the world’s coolest job and an endless parade of puck bunnies ready to help him celebrate his victories. The status quo is working for him, so why does he agree to co-parent a stray puppy with his too-serious, workaholic neighbor, Erika? And why is he so annoyed when she suddenly starts dating some tool named Doug? And why can’t he stop finding excuses to see her and touch her and kiss her and… She’s not his girlfriend, right?
Erika has enough on her plate as an ER doctor without adding any more stress to her life. So adopting a dog with Blake, the fun-loving, never-take-anything-serious, commitment-phobe across the hall is a stupid idea, right? Of course, she also probably shouldn’t be his plus-one for charity galas either. Or seeking comfort from him during a thunderstorm. Or kissing his five-for-fighting boo-boos better. Or letting him teach her how to “reduce stress” with her personal toy collection. After all, he’s not her boyfriend. Is he?
So what happens when two people reluctant to commit find love where they least expect it… Right across the hall.
🏒Review🏒 Blake is successful both when it comes to his performance on the ice and his charm when it comes to women. When he meets Erika, he was attracted to her but their views on relationships couldn’t be more different, so they remain friends and neighbors instead. That was working well until they find themselves sharing a puppy and now everything feels very different.
Erika is focused on her career as a doctor and is looking for love not a casual relationship which is what Blake wanted. Despite that a friendship develops between the two of them but when you throw in a puppy and a dating ride nothing will ever be the same.
I enjoyed seeing Blake realize that what he wanted from Erika was more than friends and how he was willing to show her that he could be the man she needed, and he wanted forever and not a fling.
She nudges me with her shoulder. “You called me Lainey.”
“I’m guessing we’re friends now. We just ruined your car together, and I know how you taste.”
Another nudge. “You’re a pig.”
“How am I pig?” I ask, turning my head to face her. “You’re gorgeous and smart, and you taste delicious, and you should own that. You should wear it on a fucking badge.”
Cala Riley, better known as Cala and Riley, are a pair of friends with a deep seated love of books and writing. Both Cala and Riley are happily married and each have children, Cala with the four-legged kind while Riley has a mixture of both two-legged and four. While they live apart, that does not affect their connection. They are the true definition of family. What started as an idea that quickly turned into a full-length book and a bond that will never end.
Clean cut, all-American, hot as sin, and sweet enough to lick all over.
That’s how my friend Skye describes Miles Blake. It’s how I’d describe him, too, if I didn’t just find out the one-night stand that rocked my world is my best friend’s fiancé’s best friend…God, what a mouthful.
Now, the cat’s out of the bag, and despite the lingering attraction between us, I’ve locked him firmly in the friend zone.
What else am I supposed to do? If I allow myself to enjoy Miles the way I want to, what will happen when things inevitably go bad? We’d be putting our prospective best friends in the middle, that’s what. And I refuse to be the cause of tension between my bestie and the love of her life.
No way. No how.
But it doesn’t take long for the desire simmering inside me to come to a head. Miles is charming, funny, gorgeous, and kind…everything I could want in a man wrapped in a sexy package that makes my body revolt against my mind and its ridiculous decision to keep things friendly.
So we make a deal––we’ll remain friends, but with…ahem…benefits. Nothing changes outside of the bedroom, and when we end the physical stuff, we’ll remain friends. No harm. No foul.
