She shook her head, which made the judge remind her she needed to verbally answer.

It took a second before she responded through gritted teeth. “I, Channing Harvey, do not know of any legal impediment which would prevent me from marrying Winchester Halliday.” She looked like she wanted to bolt, but she stayed put as I repeated the same spiel back to the officiant.

Music spilled from the other room where I could see round tables and people dressed in their roaring-twenties frock. The entire scene made sense. If Angelo wanted his customers to forget they were dealing humans, the best way to do that was to give them a distraction, a fantasy to latch onto.

I continued down the passageway. The room was like it had fallen out of the novel, The Great Gatsby. My gaze darted from table to table, until it landed on the stage where a woman was on full display.

“Oh no, Enzo.” Donata rushed down the corridor and practically crashed into me.

“What the hell is this?” I blinked to clear my vision and truly see the woman dressed in a flapper beaded dress, minus the slip. “She can’t be.”

“I don’t know, Enzo.” Donata pulled at my sleeve. “Whatever this is, Angelo did it for you. To get to you. He’s not even here.”

“Is she real?” I glanced down at Donata. “Can you see her?”

“Jesus, Enzo. Of course, I can see her.”

The hole in my chest, the one I’d been trying to patch up for years, ripped open all the way. I glanced down to look at the pain, half-expecting to be bleeding. That was the only way to describe my state since Aurora died—I’d been bleeding this whole time.

I inhaled and stepped toward her.

“Enzo, wait. This has to be a trap. I don’t know how, but it has to be. Let’s go. We’ll come back with an entire army if you want.” Donata talked fast and softly in my ear.

“No, I told you; it ends tonight.” I couldn’t keep my eyes off Aurora.

My gaze swept down to her taut nipples. They poked through the sheer fabric of her dress. But she couldn’t be aroused by all this. Men ogled her like they were ready to devour her. She didn’t want this. Why was she here? Was she really here? I turned to face Donata one more time, just to make sure I wasn’t imagining things. But Donata’s look of horror said it all.

Aurora was alive.

This story picks up years after the events that unfolded in the first part of this duet.   Enzo is now a Don and although life has continued, he isn’t really living.   His main agenda is getting vengeance for what happened and that only intensifies when he realizes that when it comes to Aurora nothing is as it seems.

The years that they have been apart haven’t been easy for Aurora, but she will do anything she can for those she loves.    Finding herself back in Enzo’s life she will have to face not only what tore them apart but what has happened since then.

Aurora is no longer the girl she used to be but the strong, resilient woman she has become while when it comes to Enzo, we see a much different side when it comes to Aurora.   They take us on quite the adventure filled with surprises and action.   The narrators were a great choice for the characters as they brought out their personalities and the depth of their love for each other.
