Jesse is a fireman who has a protective instinct even when it comes to people who annoy him. That holds true when it comes to Casey, the tenant he doesn’t want but is obligated to have. He has rules when it comes to her staying there which she is constantly breaking which creates some entertaining interactions between them.

Casey never stays anywhere for long but the house that Jesse now owns holds special memories of the time she spent there with Lou who touched Jesse’s life as well. She enjoys getting a reaction out of Jesse and isn’t about to just do what he says and once they finally acknowledge that the sparks of antagonism between them are sparks of a different nature the heat is on.

Due to their pasts neither Jesse nor Casey allow people close, and I enjoyed seeing them try to deny their feelings for each other until they realized what their pets already knew that they were meant to be together. John Lane brings out the gruff yet protective side of Jesse while Maxine Mitchell brings both the sass and insecurities of Casey.
