Blurb:
These former friends might be faking their engagement, but revealed crushes prove there might not be anything fictional about their arrangement.
In college, I often saw Judd Sylver in the library. He was a cool, broody type of guy who reminded me of a deeply tortured soul who might write poetry.
He was very different from the boy I met in third grade on National Make a New Friend Day when I passed him a note, asking if he wanted to be my new friend: Check yes or no.
(I’m a bit obsessed with calendar days.)
He was also vastly different from the young man who stood me up after I asked him to his prom.
Twenty years later, I can let bygones be bygones, especially when he rescues me from a bad date.
Then I witness him breaking up with his girlfriend which resulted in a sticky coffee drink on his chiseled cheeks and ice cubes on his fine-fitting jeans.
I offered him a napkin.
Hey, once a friend, always a friend, right? *insert sarcasm*
However, Judd takes us to the next level at my mother’s garden party, where a misunderstanding occurs with a teeny tiny slip of the tongue and a precious ring on my finger.
And suddenly, I’m Judd’s fiancée.
Fake or not, things are about to get a little too real with my old friend.

Genie is very different from her mom and has become accustomed to being belittled by her mother when it comes to her personal life and the business she has created. The last person she expected to come to her rescue is Judd, her childhood best friend who was also her first love until he walked out of her life with no explanation.
The passing of his mother and the aftereffect it had on his family changed Judd’s life. He has loved Genie since he was a teenager, but circumstances made him feel they could not be together. Now that they are pretending to be engaged, he is going to do everything he can to convince her to make it real.
Genie and Judd are kindred souls as they both lost a parent as a child and their relationship with the surviving parent was years of turmoil. You can’t help but feel for both of them as they try to navigate the depth of their feelings for each other and give each other exactly what they need. The choice of the narrators were a great match as you could feel the insecurities of both characters as well as the love they have always had for each other.
