Instead of being supported by the people who should be there for her Jo finds herself being belittled. As a result, she has tried to distance herself from the situation and is working for the photographer for the hockey team when a flying puck leaves her with a concussion. When the player responsible wants to make amends she didn’t think it would include pretending to be her fiancé to shield her from her family.
Due to his activities off the ice Nico finds himself in a precarious situation with the team. He feels guilty for injuring Jo so when he sees her situation with her family he doesn’t hesitate to step up and pretend they are engaged as it is a win-win for them both. The more time he spends with her and gets to know her he realizes that there is nothing pretend about their feelings but first they both have pasts they need to overcome.
Both Jo and Nico have difficult pasts that will draw you in and have you hoping they find the happiness they both deserve. They are exactly who the other needs in their lives and even when the turmoil escalates you know that the only place they belong is with each other. The audio performance by Willa Jaymes and Ryan Lee Dunlap brought out every emotion of the story as well as the depth of the characters.
