Rowan is trying to find out what comes next when an injury ended her dreams of surfing and in the interim she is working at the surf shop. When Kelsey comes to Rowan wanting to learn how to surf there is something about Kelsey that touches her, so she agrees despite her father and his condescending attitude.
Everett loves his daughter Kelsey and tries to replace what is missing in her life with trying to give her everything materially she could want. When he first meets Rowan he believes that she is gliding by and not living up to her potential but the more time he spends with her and the more he sees how giving she is to his daughter has him considering what happens when he needs to live.
I really enjoyed the setting of the story and the support system that Rowan has surrounding her. The relationship between Rowan and Kelsey is special especially the way she understands her and the way that Rowan shows Everett that there is more to life than the way he has been living it allows them to become the family they all need.
